CASTELO (CASTLE)
Go there and contact
Fortress in Sesimbra with a square and crenellated keep and a small archaeological museum with ancient objects.
It towers over the town at over 230 m. The fortress has been through many vicissitudes, destroyed by the Moors who built it themselves, before being rebuilt in the time of King Denis. From the square, crenellated keep, where you climb a steep staircase, there's a fine view of the bay and Sesimbra, intersected at different angles by the small church of Santa Maria do Castelo (covered inside with azulejos). The castle also boasts a small archaeological museum (free of charge) displaying artifacts dating back to the Palaeolithic period.
