CAROLINE NGHIEM PHU
Atypical gallery that makes art accessible to all, hosting VanLuc and his famous cows in permanent residence.
This atypical gallery makes art accessible to everyone, including children. How many exhibition venues do you know where the intentions behind each work are simply explained? Where schools and day-care centres are warmly welcomed? Where you can touch the works? Well, that’s the case at La Galerie, thanks to Caroline Denis. And since its creation in 2001, La Galerie has welcomed not only VanLuc and his famous cows in permanent residence (the artist has his studio here), but also Fayrouz Ammari and her unusual papier-mâché heroines, Odile Kinart and her generous sculpted faces, and many others. If you’ve got a crush but don’t have the budget, why not treat yourself to one of the beautiful reproductions on offer in the adjacent stall? Or a magnet, a piece of jewellery, placemats... There’s something for everyone at La Galerie boutique, run by Caroline’s daughter Sahra. By the way, who designed these elegant vintage collages that adorn lampshades, boxes, mirrors and toilet seats (the effect is fantastic, you’ll see)? Here’s a hint: they’re signed Decaroline... One more thing: no clearly defined opening hours for this friendly place. The best way to find out if the gallery is open is to go and see for yourself. In the end, it’s a great place to take a stroll.
