IGREJA DA GRAÇA
Church of Portuguese Gothic style with portico decorated with a rose window and tomb of Pedro Alvares Cabral who discovered Brazil.
This church built between 1380 and 1420 is one of the purest examples of the Portuguese Gothic style. The exterior is beautifully decorated, with its portico surmounted by a rose window that would be a single block of stone, revealing the artistic talent of the time. The interior, inverted by steps to descend, is rather sober; with the wooden roof of the central nave, it recalls the Italian basilicas. The tomb of Pedro Alvares Cabral, who discovered Brazil in 1500, and his wife are also found here.
