Castle on a granite massif built by the Templar order in 1171, which served to control the trade in Golega.
This castle built by the Templar order in 1171 is extraordinary. Built on a granite massif in the middle of the Tagus, it was part of the Linha do Tejo defensive line with the Santarem castle at the time of the Reconquista, used to protect the capital of the time, Coimbra. Representative example of the military strongholds of the time, its walls are high, reinforced with ten turrets, the whole is dominated by the Torre de Menagem. It controlled the trade of olives, wheat, meat and wood between the regions of the territory and Lisbon.
