REITORIA - "FÁTIMA LIGHT AND PEACE" EXHIBITION
Reitoria, where thousands of objects offered in homage to Our Lady of Fatima are exposed, including the sublime crown.
Thousands of objects donated by personalities and strangers to pay homage to Our Lady of Fátima are displayed here. The most impressive piece is the sublime crown that the statue of Our Lady wears only on the great days of pilgrimage: it was offered by Portuguese women in 1942 to thank the Virgin that Portugal did not enter the Second World War. But if this crown is exceptional, it is also because it bears the bullet that passed through the body of Pope John Paul II on the day of the attack of which he was victim on May 13, 1981 in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican; it naturally found its place with the right diameter although the crown was made more than 40 years earlier... It is important to remember that one of the 3 parts of the secret of Fátima revealed to the 3 little shepherds in 1917 was the suffering of a "bishop dressed in white", namely John Paul II according to the interpretations of the Church. The Pope, who knew this secret but did not reveal it until 2000 during his last visit to Fátima, says he felt a protective hand intervene to deflect the trajectory of the bullet that was heading towards his heart on the day of the attack. He is convinced that it was Our Lady of Fatima. For this reason, he had the bullet in question embedded in Our Lady's crown. John Paul II offered Our Lady a ring as a sign of eternal gratitude for her life saved.
