RESERVA NATURAL DAS DUNAS DE SÃO JACINTO
Reserve composed of beaches including Praia de São Jacinto, with dunes, pine trees, fresh water pools, passage of migratory birds in winter.
Entering the São Jacinto Dunes Natural Park, one passes through a pine forest that leads to dunes behind which the tumultuous violence of the ocean resounds in silence. This coastal area at the source of the Aveiro lagoon is made up of beaches, mobile and fixed dunes with pine trees, dotted with a few large pools of fresh water.
In winter, the reserve is the place of passage of migratory birds. It is also a refuge and a breeding site for many species. It is possible to observe them south of the reserve entrance (about 40 minutes walk from the ferry).
There areseveral trails from the center, from 40 minutes to 3 hours for the most courageous, very pleasant, shaded and very well marked. On arrival, go to the entrance and you will be shown the paths to follow. The objective of this reserve is to preserve the natural heritage and diversity of the pine forest. With a little patience and discretion, you will observe small huts and some rare species. The place lends itself very well to a small family picnic. Otherwise, a local restaurant, just in front of the center, awaits you. On the banks of the ria, you can see the fishermen with their famous Moliceiro.
Praia de São Jacinto: a wild beach, with white sand as far as the eye can see, just a stone's throw from the nature reserve. There is also a small bar, which plays good records that you can listen to while drinking a cold beer at sunset. Happiness.
