MUSEU FRANCISCO TAVARES PROENÇA JÚNIOR
Museum with archaeological pieces, paintings, tapestries, examples of embroidery, a specialty of Castelo Branco.
Founded in 1911, the Francisco Tavares Proença Júnior Museum is housed in the former Episcopal Palace. It contains archaeological pieces from the region, paintings, tapestries and many examples of Castelo Branco's speciality: linen bedspreads embroidered with silk threads. This type of embroidery is of great refinement in the choice of its motifs (birds, butterflies, flowers...) and its colours, generally bright. It is sometimes still part of the bride's trousseau.
