HÔTEL TARDIF
Classical-style mansion built in Caen stone.
Even before the eyes have been able to embrace the residence, the park reveals the splendour of the places. Former botanical garden of the city, created at the end of the 19th century by Gabriel Harvest de Vaux then botanist in Versailles and happy owner of the place, it still holds the rare essences that amazed the visitors of the time. The special hotel, built for our botanist in the 1780s, is a masterpiece of classical style all along Caen stone, preceded by a magnificent paved courtyard of honour. Strangely, it retained the name of its next owner, Baron Tardif, who also had the green thumb and a sacred gift for the garden. The present host of the Places, Anthony, is worthy of his predecessors, one quickly realises it by visiting the interior where furniture, tapestries, chandeliers and mirrors with impeccable gilt seem to await the return of Louis XVI or Napoleon. Whether it’s in Vaux’s Moisson, Langlois widow or Cambrai’s Chambre room, expect the grandiose when you go to bed! And in the wake, a happy surprise, breakfast is as sumptuous as the rest: pastries, eggs, sausages, cheeses… accompanied by Anthony’s smile.
