REPORTERS MEMORIAL
A memorial to 2,000 journalists, a unique place in Europe to honour those who give their lives for information.
It’s a unique place in Europe, thanks to the town of Bayeux, in partnership with Reporters Sans Frontières (RSF). Inaugurated in 2006, the memorial pays tribute to journalists and reporters killed in the exercise of their profession since 1944. More than 2,000 names are engraved on some thirty white steles. The space was designed by landscape architect Samuel Craquelin. "To want to be free is also to want others to be free," wrote Simone de Beauvoir. This is the underlying maxim of this moving place for the profession.
