Café-musée in Bénouville, a place of pilgrimage for veterans and history buffs organising an event linked to D-Day.

Close to the Bénouville bridge, this café-museum is a must-see for D-Day events. A place of pilgrimage for veterans and history buffs alike, this is the first house liberated in France by the British 6th Airborne Division on the night of June 5-6, 1944. More than a café, Madame Gondrée’s Pegasus Bridge is a symbol of freedom. Across the street, you’ll see a Bofors gun of Swedish origin, used by British artillery regiments.

Petit endroit au premier regard très intéressant par son authenticité.
Nous avons demandé 2 cafés allongé. On nous a demandé 9 euro. Et en plus le café était un jus de chaussette. Endroit chargé d histoire . Mais consommer en face

I went here with my 12 year old grandson, he wanted to see pegasus Bridge, we saw the cafe and went inside, the public toilet was out of order, so we politely asked to use the facilities, sadly the older lady running the place initially refused with an offish aloofness saying its reserved for customers who purchase something, personally I feel that going to the loo is a very basic need so therefore should be allowed at any cafe, restaurant etc.
We bought hot chocolate which were very weak but were then allowed to use the loo.
The ladies manner was not rude but certainly not warm and inviting, im really Saddened by this as its such a wonderfully historic place to visit, slighty off putting for me.
