DUTCH CEMETERY
Small Dutch cemetery closed to the public, but accessible by application to the Saint-Francis church, in charge of the site
The small Dutch cemetery is the oldest European cemetery in India. At the entrance, the date 1724, the year of its consecration, is engraved on a pillar. The 104 tombs, none of which has a cross, are those of Europeans who changed the destiny of Cochin. The inscriptions are in old Dutch. Today the tombs are overgrown, which gives the place a special atmosphere. Closed to the public, its doors can however be opened by making a request to the Saint-Francis church, in charge of the place.
