LORRAINE CROSS
The Cross of Lorraine, a majestic landmark for Seine sailors.
The Croix de Lorraine was raised on 16 June 1990 on the boundary of the communes of Graye-sur-Mer and Courseulles, in the area known as La Brèche de Graye. It stands on the site where General de Gaulle set foot in the liberated land, on 14 June 1944, after crossing the Channel on board the French destroyer La Combattante. Visible from very far away with its 18 metres high, from the Barfleur Raz in Le Havre, it has today become one of the main buoys (or landmarks on the coasts) for all sailors in the Bay of the Seine.
