Claude Lelouch and Deauville have a long history. It can be said that the filmmaker owes the city a part of the success of his career, since it inspired him to make the film Un homme et une femme, quite simply his greatest success. A square bears his name, on the waterfront, very close to the Centre International de Deauville, boards, and marinas. This square is the exact place where the Mustang driven by Jean-Louis Trintignant stops when he sees Anouk Aimée on the beach and makes lighthouse calls. It was inaugurated on September 5, 2006, as part of the American Film Festival, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of this masterpiece, Palme d’Or in Cannes, which won two Oscars (best foreign film and best original script) and forty-seven international awards. Neither the film nor the beach has aged. Quite the contrary. "Like our voices, our hearts in joy, made the choice of a romance that passed there. Chabadabada, chabadabada"... The sea on the sand has not erased the steps of the lovers gathered....
