BRITISH WAR CEMETERY
Military cemetery on the right of the Dover Road, where British soldiers killed in the Second World War are buried.
Located on the right-hand side of the road as you enter Dover from Caen, this military cemetery is easily identifiable. A square stone pavilion with a pointed roof, surrounded by trees and hedges, marks the entrance. 1,123 soldiers who fell in Normandy during the Second World War are buried here, including 927 British, 11 Canadians, 3 Australians, one Pole, one unidentified soldier, and 180 Germans. The graves are those of men who fell on June 6, 1944, and the following days during the advance towards Caen. The tranquil beauty of the site, with its magnolias and lime trees providing lovely shade for the stroll in spring, and of course, the tribute to the soldiers.
