EGLISE SAINTE-TRINITE
Gothic church in Falaise, in the footsteps of William the Conqueror, near the Memorial.
A pure jewel of Norman Gothic, Sainte-Trinité is the oldest of Falaise's three churches. The first church, built around 840, was destroyed during Philippe Auguste's siege, then rebuilt in 1204 in the Gothic style. Partly destroyed during the Hundred Years' War, the chapels, nave and choir were rebuilt in the 15th century in the flamboyant Gothic style. On the outside, admire the gargoyles and Renaissance porch; on the inside, the chestnut vaulting of the choir, the ribbed crossbeams and the corbelled pillars.
