POLISH CEMETERY
A Polish cemetery in Falaise, where the 696 soldiers who took part in the Battle of Normandy are buried.
Urville-Langannerie is home to France’s only Polish cemetery. With its 696 graves marked by crosses, this site honours the soldiers of General Stanisław Maczek’s1st Armoured Division, engaged under the Canadian army in the Battle of Normandy. An imposing V-shaped monument topped by a sculpture of a Polish eagle catches the eye, while commemorative plaques recall the history of these often forgotten combatants. Emblems of Polish units adorn the fence, testifying to their sacrifice on the path of Remembrance.
