FÊTE DE LA COQUILLE SAINT-JACQUES
Grandcamp-Maisy, a small, friendly and authentic fishing port, hides its game well: with no less than 45 boats, it is one of the most important ports on the Normandy coast. Sole, plaice, pollack, are among the treasures that trawlers bring back, but their most precious loot remains scallops, Label Rouge de Normandie please. Every year it is caught between 1,000 and 1,400 tons! There is plenty to celebrate in December, usually on the first weekend after the opening of the fishing season in the Baie de Seine. An appointment to watch out for, then! The Scallop Festival is an opportunity to stock up on shells, of course, but also fish and shellfish, to attend free concerts and events under the tents, to stroll around the local market, to taste local seafood products and to discover the life of a port through exhibitions, models and photos.
