Practical information : Going out Toronto
Timetable
Nightclubs are generally open on Fridays and Saturdays (and other nights depending on the club) from 10pm to 3am or even later. For anything related to friends' activities (movies, billiards, bowling, escape games, etc.), the hours vary greatly depending on the type of establishment. There are also a few casinos in the Toronto area, such as the Woodbine Casino in Etobicoke or the Niagara Falls casinos, and they are open 24 hours a day. For the performing arts (music, comedy, theater, etc.), the annual programming is mostly concentrated outside of the summer season, in the evenings most of the time.
Budget & Tips
Going out to a club is generally cheaper in Toronto than in Europe (it must be said that you don't necessarily find the same standard of service there either). As everywhere, the entrance is often free before a certain hour (usually 11pm) or by registering on the guest list. Ladies also get free admission on ladies' nights (at least one night a week). For movies, discounts are offered on the weekly discount day (usually Tuesday). Good deal for shows: Gametime offers last minute rates for shows and sports games in Toronto (gametime.co/toronto-tickets/metros/toronto).
Keep in mind that the prices listed are always exclusive of tax. In addition to the 13% Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), a 15% service charge must be added where applicable. All methods of payment are accepted, but it may happen that the bar in a theater, for example, only accepts cash and/or debit card.
To be booked
To ensure a seat, reservations are highly recommended for shows. For certain activities such as go-karting and escape games, reservations are often imperative and a deposit may be required. For all other activities, simply show up on the day.
Night transport
In Toronto, getting home late at night is no problem. While there is no overnight service for subways and buses, most streetcar lines operate 24 hours a day and cover the entire area south of Bloor Street. There are also cabs, Uber, Lyft and the like that offer 24-hour service. There are also several ride-hailing services in the GTA (To Arrive Alive, Ontario Designated Drivers, etc.), but you generally have to be a member to use their services.
Age restrictions
In Ontario, the legal drinking age is 19. Wherever a bar license applies, only those over the age of majority are allowed. Note that if you look under 25, you will likely be asked for official photo identification. You should also be aware that some clubs may require you to be 21 or 25 years of age to attend.
What's very local
Toronto is a leader in the field of Broadway-style musicals. Classics such as Cats or Les Misérables are usually presented in one of the theaters managed by Mirvish Productions.
Smokers
Smoking is prohibited in clubs, entertainment venues, casinos and on their terraces. The same applies to billiard rooms, activity centers (karting, escape games, etc.), etc. You must also smoke at a distance from the door of the establishment and its terraces (the law indicates 9 meters).
Tourist traps
Just as with sporting events, the resale of entertainment tickets is ubiquitous online, and sometimes even on the street. While it's true that you can save a few bucks by buying from resellers, it would be a shame to waste your money on fake tickets. So go through the official ticket offices.
