This choice of material can be explained by the lack of means of the inhabitants at the time. But the people of Honfleur turned this disadvantage into an asset. Drawing on their knowledge of shipbuilding, they built the church in the style of a ship. Its silhouette is unique, and the result is breathtaking. Son architecture est très particulière : toute en bois, sa voûte a la forme d'une coque de bateau renversée ; de nombreux ex-votos sont exposés.
Face à l'église il y a le clocher séparé, une robuste construction de chêne édifiée sur la maison du sonneur. Annexe du Musée Eugène Boudin, il se visite et présente des œuvres religieuses (sculptures, souvenirs des Charités et de la chapelle Notre-Dame de Grâce).
