You should also know that the sauna culture in Germany is naturist. In general, you walk around the sauna with your bathrobe and leave it at the entrance of the sauna to enter the cabin with only your towel around your waist. There are several notable differences between German saunas on the one hand and Scandinavian and Finnish saunas on the other. First of all, German saunas are mostly mixed. While the Nordics like to chat and drink beer in the cabin, the Germans are mostly quiet. Every hour, an employee comes to perform the Aufguss ritual: he or she pours water with an essential oil on the stones to raise the temperature of the cabin. Then he or she twirls a towel around to spread a wind of great heat.
