ROMAN BATHS
Site built by the collaboration of two architects, featuring a house, pavilion, arcade and pond.
The result of a fruitful collaboration between architects Karl Friedrich Schinkel and Ludwig Persius, this asymmetrical early 19th-century ensemble blends the style of Italian country houses with that of antique villas. In addition to the baths, there's the gardener's house, the tea pavilion and an attractive arcaded gallery, all on the edge of a pond. The charm of these Roman baths is enhanced by the clear evidence of the passage of time. King Frederick William IV (then Crown Prince) provided numerous sketches for their construction.
