CHINESE TEA PAVILION
Chinese pavilion featuring harmonious columns with an interior decorated with trinkets and a fresco of Chinese life.
During his stays at Sanssouci, Frederick II appreciated the intimacy of this small Chinese pavilion in the middle of the park. It has to be said that in the 18th century, the Far East and its refinement fed the fantasies of the European aristocracy, giving rise to a craze for what were then known as "chinoiseries". This pavilion is a rather successful example: harmonious columns covered in gold leaf, an interior decorated with porcelain trinkets and a trompe-l'oeil fresco depicting a scene from Chinese life.
