MARBLE PALACE
Palace built between 1787 and 1793 with fireplaces and sculptures to house King Frederick William II in summer.
Romantically situated on a lakeside terrace, the Marble Palace (Marmorpalais) is the most striking building in the New Garden (Neuer Garten). It was built between 1787 and 1793 as a small summer residence for King Frederick William II. With this soberly elegant neoclassical style, he sought to distinguish himself from his uncle and predecessor King Frederick II, who was fond of Baroque and Rococo. The interior features numerous marble fireplaces and ancient sculptures. It's like being in Italy!
