PURA MAOSPAHIT

A Hindu temple in Denpasar, it stands out for its remarkable architecture.
This temple dates from the 14th century and its architecture betrays without question its Javanese influence from the Mojopahit period. It was partially destroyed in 1917 by the eruption of Gunung Batur. The entrance to the temple is in the small alley to the south. You enter the temple through the candi bentar, looking at the kulkul (hollowed out wooden trunk that sounds or "beats" the alarm). The candi bentar, a narrow brick doorway, leads to the various courtyards, including the middle one, protected by the large statues of the Garuda and the giant Batara Bayu (god of wind).
