PURI PEMECUTAN
The ancient and imposing Pemecutan Palace in Denpasar, a site steeped in history and surrounded by Hindu shrines.
The ancient and imposing palace of Pemecutan had to suffer the assaults of the Dutch during the puputan (collective suicide of the royal house) of 1906. It was devastated and looted by the Dutch soldiers. Nevertheless, there are still some vestiges and especially the old gamelan (typical traditional instrumental ensemble). Surrounded by Hindu shrines and still inhabited by the last king of Denpasar, it is nevertheless open to the public. The palace has been transformed into a hotel, unfortunately little maintained, with rather mediocre rooms.
