LE MAYEUR MUSEUM
Museum exhibiting the works of Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur and his collection of traditional Balinese art and local artifacts.
This house was built in the Balinese style with carved shutters. The museum has a number of artist's proofs and paintings that have suffered over time. But we can see the artistic path of the painter through impressionism and then some expressionist tendencies and in any case a tenderness for Balinese colors. Some of the paintings date from the Second World War, during which Le Mayeur had to use palm fiber instead of canvas to paint.
Adrien Jean Le Mayeur (1880-1958) first came to Bali in 1932. He settled in Sanur after having lived in Denpasar and having known the famous legong dancer Ni Pollok with whom he married in 1935. He was 55 years old when she was only 15! After renting and then buying the land, they built the house which was donated to the Indonesian government after Ni Pollok's death in 1985 and was then transformed into a museum.
Le Mayeur's afficionados and art lovers in general will be delighted to see his paintings on display, but for the rest of you, save this visit for a rainy day. Indeed, the conditions of presentation of the works are not optimal, the rooms are poorly lit and wet, and you visit alone. Another interest of the visit is the house itself, representative of an alliance of European and Asian architectural cultures, and the garden is pleasant in addition to being little visited.

Un peu de culture toujours agréable même par 30 degrés en vacance.
