PURA PENATARAN SASIH
A royal temple founded in 1266 and featuring a remarkable gong, a large bronze drum, it is also a sacred site in Pejeng.
Pura Penataran Sasih was in the 13th century the royal temple of Pejeng and the presence of the Pejeng moon attests to its sacredness to the Balinese. The temple would have been founded in 1266. It is not of exceptional interest except for its gong: a bronze drum in the shape of an hourglass which is probably the largest in the world with a length of 1.86 m and a diameter of 1.60 m. It is not very well displayed and is located high up, so be careful not to miss it. Another positive point: it is much less frequented than the neighboring temples.
