Royal temple to visit in Gianyar, a site known as one of the great centers of lontar meditation and research.
The Puri Langon, or "Temple of Beauty", a royal temple located to the east of the Griya Sidawa, known as one of the great centers of meditation and research on lontars, manuscripts engraved in young palm leaves. Opposite the palace, a performance of Gianyar dances takes place every full-moon night at the Balai Budaya(editor's note: cultural center). In 1992, a gigantic cremation was held which, although not quite as magnificent as that of the Ubud king in 1979, succeeded in mobilizing tens of thousands of people.
