ASCENT OF MOUNT AGUNG
Go there and contact
Climb Mount Agung for a pleasant getaway to discover Bali's highest mountain.
It is the highest mountain in Bali and it is possible to climb it, which remains the flagship activity of the region. The two main routes to climb Mount Agung start from Besakih temple and Selat village (Pura Pasar Agung).
This last route will allow you to reach the southern rim of the crater (2800 m, count 3 hours of ascent, departures around 3am), but will not allow you to reach the highest ridge. You will not see the center of the island from this point. By the way of Besakih, count 5 hours of ascent at least (we leave at 11 pm). It is much more difficult but at the top, we enjoy a panoramic view of 360 degrees! The ascent of the mount Agung is difficult and testing: the ground is loose (volcanic sand) and very sloping. It is not possible during the rainy season, unless it has not rained for a long time and the weather is favorable. The ideal is to start the ascent on a night of full moon in order to arrive at the summit for the sunrise, and not after 8 am, because the clouds generally begin to obstruct the view at this time.
One can sleep in Selat (or Muncan) and take the car to the temple of Pura Pasar Agjung in the night to attack the climb. Bring warm clothes, food and drinks, a camera and an electric torch. In any case, take a guide, preferable for your safety. Once at the top, the views are magnificent.
