SAMSARA LIVING MUSEUM BALI
Born of a collective initiative in a village 20 minutes from Amlapura, this museum offers immersion in Balinese traditions and customs through a variety of enriching activities: making offerings, Arak distillation, water blessings, discovery of a traditional botanical garden, cooking classes, meeting with the local priest, as well as a tour of the museum. Here you'll learn about key aspects of Balinese culture, including its spiritual, human and ecological dimensions, as well as its deep connection with nature. The museum also presents the sacred book Vera, from which the concepts of sarti and smerti are derived. You'll also discover the lontar, bamboo leaves inscribed with sacred texts, brought from India and adapted to Balinese in the 14th century. These lontars are sung during religious ceremonies.
The visit begins with the Seigehan, a purification ritual to harmonize the physical and spiritual elements before entering the sacred places. Visitors are then welcomed with the ngoncang, an agricultural tradition in which a hollowed tree trunk is beaten rhythmically with a stick. The milestones of Balinese life are also discussed, such as Namen Ari-Ari, a ritual involving the father to bury the placenta after birth. An explanation is given of Rwa Bineda, the balance of energies, symbolized by Bali's ubiquitous black and white motifs, representing the Balinese Yin and Yang.
