Majestic mountain, culminating at 1,717 meters above sea level at Toya Bungkah, a good plan for an unforgettable night climb.

This majestic mountain, culminating at 1,717 meters above sea level, offers an incredibly rewarding experience, whether you choose to climb it during the day or on an unforgettable night ascent.
The daytime ascent of Mount Batur is a perfectly accessible option for most visitors. The well-marked trails take you through lush forest and offer magnificent views of Bali's surroundings. This adventure requires no special preparation, apart from a good pair of hiking boots and an adventurous spirit. You can immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the island of the gods as you climb to the summit.
However, if you're looking for a truly memorable experience, consider climbing at night. This option requires greater vigilance and adequate preparation, but is well worth the effort. To undertake this nocturnal adventure, it's imperative to enlist the help of an experienced guide.
When climbing at night, make sure you're properly equipped. A powerful flashlight is essential to light your way in total darkness. Good hiking boots with a solid grip will help you climb the slopes with confidence. Don't forget to pack enough water to keep you hydrated throughout the climb, as well as food to recharge your strength.
Mountain weather can be unpredictable, so a rain cape is a good precautionary measure. To guarantee a place with a guide, we recommend booking in advance. You can do this the evening before by contacting your hotel or a local tourist agency.
Once you reach the summit of Mount Batur's main crater, the reward will be extraordinary. You'll witness the sunrise from a breathtaking vantage point, offering a 360-degree panoramic view of the island and its surroundings. The experience is truly magical, with the landscape gradually illuminating as the sun rises above the horizon.
After reaching the main crater, the adventure continues if you wish. You can explore Mount Batur's other craters, named Batur II, Batur III, Batur IV and Batur V. A hike along the ridges will allow you to discover these fascinating geological formations and marvel at the power of nature.
For the more intrepid adventurer, another option is to climb Mount Abang, which rises to an altitude of 2,153 meters. This climb starts from Penelokan and takes around 3 hours. It's important to note that the view from the summit of Batur remains unrivalled in terms of beauty and natural spectacle.
Climbing Mount Batur is an experience that will remain engraved in your memory. Whether you choose to do it by day or by night, caution and preparation are essential to make the most of this unique adventure. Respect the surrounding nature, follow your guide's advice and marvel at the splendor of Bali. You can start from Toya Bungkah, from the north-east of the lake, or from Pura Jati :

From Toya Bungkah: take the Kedisan road and the path on the right after the ticket office. They merge after a while. You have to head west-southwest anyway. Walk for 45 minutes, and you reach the top of a ridge with a signposted path. You continue on soft black volcanic sand. It takes another two hours to reach the summit. Along the way, you'll have the chance to meet children who sell you sodas and water at insane prices, as they've brought them up specially from below. The heat increases as you climb. The ground gets hotter and hotter, and fumaroles sometimes escape. At the summit, a warung with an exceptional panorama serves tea or coffee.

From the north-east, a small road takes you by car or motorcycle to a parking area. To get there, take the road west from Songan for just over three kilometers, then turn left for two kilometers. A new road on the left takes you to the parking lot, where you'll need to leave your vehicle. Please note that whether you're driving a car or a motorcycle, we strongly recommend that you leave nothing in your vehicle. From the parking lot on the right, it's about an hour's journey.

From Pura Jati: over two kilometers from Toya Bungkah towards Kedisan, about 300 m on the right after the temple, a path is signposted. Once you've reached the top, unless you've left your car in the parking lot, you don't have to take the same route back down. However, you can start from Toya Bungkah, reach the summit and then follow the ridge westwards down through the lava fields to Pura Jati.

It's also possible to make the ascent from the villages of Batur and Kintamani.

And if you'd like to make the ascent with a guide or in a group, don't hesitate to visit the HPPGB office, which is the association of Batur volcano guides. There are around sixty of them, and their photos are on display in the office. Fixed rates are in force, just ask at the office. We advise you to deal directly with them. Using an intermediary will cost you more.
