DONGMYO
Sanctuary dedicated to Gwanu, a Han dynasty Chinese general elevated to the rank of god of war, the brick-walled hall.
This sanctuary is dedicated to Gwanu, a Chinese general of the Han dynasty who was elevated to the rank of god of war. Altars were built after 1598 and the "defeat" of the Japanese to thank him for his help (the death of Hideyoshi, certainly). There were 5 in Seoul but it is the only one left with the altar near the Bansang market. We can see 3 others in the country, in Suwon, Andong and Namwon. The main hall is in the Chinese style with its brick walls. It houses 2 representations of Gwanu, one red (the mortal), the other white (the divine being).
