BIGAK (PIGAK)
Pavilion near Gwanghwamun Gate, erected in 1902 to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of Emperor Gojong's reign.
This small pavilion, located near the Gwanghwamun Gate, was built in 1902 to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the reign of Emperor Gojong. Some believe that it was actually a pavilion built in honour of his wife, Queen Min, who was murdered by the Japanese in 1895. It was repaired after independence in 1954, then completely restored in 1979. The top of the stele was calligraphed by the 6-year-old Sunjong dolphin. It is not an essential but if you come across it by chance, you will know its history....
