UNHYEONGUNG PALACE
This little palace was the private residence of the Daewon-gun. He had him built during his regency from 1863 to 1873. His son, King Gojong, grew up there until the age of 12. There were several buildings, divided into 2 wings, as in all noble residences, sarangchae (male reception part) and anchae (inner female part). Some of these buildings disappeared over time and part of the land was transformed into a school in 1948. The city of Seoul bought the remaining buildings in 1993 and started the restoration. It is possible to visit the Noandang, which was part of sarangchae, Norakdang and Irodang of the anchae. There's also an altar dedicated to Daewon-gun, Sujiksa. These are beautiful examples of the architecture of the yangban houses (nobles) at the end of Joseon. A small museum exhibits objects that have belonged to or relate to their life.
