FÊTE DES ROIS

Lighting a candle on the night of January 5 in Copenhagen is the tradition of the Magi and the end of the Nativity festivities.
Gaspar, Balthazar and Melchior are also celebrated here on January 6. This day was once an official holiday on the Danish calendar but was removed by the government from the list of public holidays in 1770. This does not prevent families from continuing to light a special candle the evening before, a three-branched candle, one for each of the Magi. Its particularity: it produces a detonation when it finishes burning. A fun and explosive way to mark the end of Christmas festivities.
