This church was once part of a monastery built in 1296. Apart from the church, which became a parish church at the time of the Reformation, a curious passage between Læderstræde (Strædet) and Strøget, probably a former cloister gallery, remains today as a testimony of this monastic complex. Next door, the House of the Holy Ghost is one of the few remains of medieval Copenhagen since its foundation dates from the same period. This former hospice has been converted into an exhibition space.
