Founded in 1694, this cemetery remained in service until 1967. It was once the main Jewish cemetery in Copenhagen. The cemetery covers an area of 13,500 square metres and contains some 5,500 graves, the oldest of which is that of a young jeweller buried in September 1693. Surrounded by a brick wall built in 1873 on three sides, its entrance is located on Møllegade. As is traditional, the Hebrew engraved stelae all face east.
