ROYAL THEATRE (KONGELIGE TEATER)
Built in the neo-Renaissance style, this royal theater is home to the Royal Ballet troupe, founded in 1775.
Between Holmenskanal and Nyhavn. Preceded by statues of the two playwrights Ludwig Holberg and Adam Oehlenschläger, and topped by Pegasus' chariot, the Royal Theatre (Kongelige Teater) was built in the neo-Renaissance style by Vilhelm Dahlerup and Ove Pedersen in 1874. Since the inauguration in 2008 of the New Royal Theatre, located on the harbour at the end of Nyhavn, it is now the home of the Royal Ballet company founded in 1775. The theatre has a capacity of 1,600 seats.
