FREDERIKSBERG CASTLE (FREDERIKSBERG SLOT)
Inspired by Italian villas, this grand residence served as a summer residence for the royal family until 1869.
It was at the very beginning of the 18th century that the architect Ernst Brandenburger designed for Frederick IV a large residence inspired by Italian villas, in memory of a stay there by the monarch. Built and enlarged from 1699 to 1735, the palace served as a summer residence for the royal family until the Military Academy was established in 1869. To see: the baroque chapel. It overlooks a huge garden laid out in the English style with its lakes, its paths winding between islands and canals.
