THORVALDSEN MUSEUM
Museum in Copenhagen, built to house the works bequeathed by sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen to his native city.
This vast museum, inaugurated in 1848, was specially built to house the works bequeathed by the sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen to his native town. And there are many of them! The architect Mr. Gottlieb Bindesbøll was in charge of the project, which was very inspired by Greek architecture. The exterior walls are covered with murals evoking the return journey from Rome of the artist, a true national figure buried in the courtyard. The podcasts tell us the story of the place, the works and the man whose 250th anniversary will be celebrated in 2020.
