CISTERNS (CISTERN)
Art gallery featuring internationally renowned artists in a cavernous underground space in Copenhagen
Two glass pyramids rise up on either side of a pond in the middle of a huge lawn in Søndermarken Park. They mark the entrance and exit of an exceptional underground space reserved for exhibitions of mainly contemporary art. You are at the city's cisterns. For almost a century, they have formed the reservoir that supplies Copenhagen with drinking water. Emptied in 1981, this very cavernous underground space, punctuated by vaulted galleries, has become a unique art gallery in the world, invested by internationally renowned artists.
