Establishment to find the collections of lawyer Christian Ludvig David: Islamic, Danish and European of the century.
These private collections were assembled by a wealthy business lawyer and confirmed art lover: Christian Ludvig David (1878-1960). They are displayed in the building he occupied, opposite the Royal Garden. These permanent collections are divided into three distinct sections, and are occasionally supplemented by temporary exhibitions.
Islamic art collection. A fabulous collection representing Islam from the 7th century to the mid-19th century, superbly displayed in a chronological and geographical museography. Objects come from the four corners of the Muslim world, from Al-Andalus to India, via the Ottoman Empire and Sicily. Persian and Turkish miniatures, calligraphy, tapestries, zelliges, enamels, ceramics and more.
Danish art collection. The Danish modern art collection includes paintings, sculptures and ceramics by Theodor Philipsen, Jens Ferdinand Willumsen, L. A. Ring and Peter Hansen, produced between 1880 and 1950, as well as 11 paintings and watercolors by the internationally renowned painter Vilhelm Hammershøi (1864-1916).
Collection of 18th-century European art. Mainly furniture and decorative arts, with a particular taste for Danish silver and earthenware from the Store Kongensgade manufactory (1724-1770) and the Royal Porcelain Manufactory. In addition to English furniture, French and German porcelain, Asian objets d'art and furniture.
