SUPERKILEN
750-metre-long urban park divided into 3 landscaped areas: the "Red Square", the "Urban Living Room" and the "Green Park"
A new kind of urban park was imagined in 2012 by the artist collective Superflex in collaboration with the architectural firm Bjarke Ingels. The aim was to rehabilitate a district that was suffering from a bad reputation and to position itself in the "living together" approach. A successful gamble, since it now attracts residents from all over the city. The park is 750 m long and divided into three zones featuring street furniture from some sixty countries, representative of the different communities living in the area. This open space is criss-crossed by a bicycle path marked by a white stripe, a common thread linking the zones.
The "Carré Rouge " owes its name to the floor covered in red, pink and orange rubber. This sports area is surrounded by buildings painted in the same tones. Skaters, Thai boxing rings... It serves as an extension of the adjacent sports halls. Benches from Brazil, swings imported from Iraq...
The second zone is designed as an "urban living room". Concrete floor marked with undulating white lines. The space is structured by palms and Japanese cherry trees, under which board games can be played... Moroccan fountain, slide in the shape of a Japanese octopus..
Finally, the "green park", with its hilly, grass-covered landscape, is dedicated to sporting activities (soccer and basketball pitches, etc.) and outdoor activities (picnic tables, barbecues, etc.).
