CARLSBERG BREWERY
Long-awaited reopening of the breweries: interactive terminals, restored historic rooms and historical re-enactments.
Reopened at the end of 2023, Carlsberg Home invites you to discover the history of the Carlsberg brewery and of J. C. Jacobsen, who in 1847 bought this plot of land in the middle of the countryside to set up his new brewery. His little boy saw the Frederiksberg hill and asked: "Is that a mountain? A normal question for a child from the flat country! This gave rise to the name Carlsberg, literally "Carl's mountain". The place is superb and extends over the whole district: at times there are hints of the Florentine Renaissance mixed with a few figures from Nordic mythology visible on the rooftops. The Jacobsens, great art lovers, were generous patrons of the arts (an action continued by the group today). They welcomed artists such as Vilhelm Dahlerup (author of the four sculpted elephants supporting the main entrance, a red brick tower topped with bulbs). Among the scientists who worked for the family, Pasteur did important work, as did his counterpart, the Dane Emil Christian Hansen, who developed a yeast still used by most brewers.
The museographical tour follows the history of the founding family: we discover the original installations, admirably restored, and move into immersive rooms. And to better understand the adventure of beer around the world from the 19th century to the present day, the visit ends with the incredible collection of 22,000 bottles and a tasting in the magnificent bar next to the stables!
