GL Strand is an art society founded in 1825 by Professor Eckersberg in order to disseminate artistic culture and to establish a close link between emerging art and the general public. It is an essential venue for artists who want to establish their reputation or make a name for themselves in Denmark. Some of the most famous of these were exhibited here: Edvard Munch in 1908, Vilhelm Hammershøi in 1916, Robert Jacobsen and Richard Mortensen in 1949 and Asger Jorn in 1953. That's telling!
