ORDRUPGAARD
A site in the heart of an incredible park containing a rich collection, mainly paintings, assembled by Wilhelm Hansen.
An extraordinary treasure is hidden outside the usual circuit of the region's museums, in the middle of an incredible park where the playgrounds were designed by artists, among them Elafour Eliasson, as true artistic creations. Then comes the richness of the collections, mostly paintings, gathered by a businessman, Wilhelm Hansen, who made his fortune in insurance. As an enlightened art lover, he bought many paintings from the French Impressionists during his trips to Paris. However, Danish artists were not neglected, whether Hammershøi or Johannes Larsen.
Thus began, in 1916, this fabulous collection which was for a long time exhibited in the house (a pleasant country manor) where Hansen lived. But it was a bit cramped. So the architect Zaha Hadid was commissioned to build an extension to double the exhibition space. Her signature can be seen in this almost organic cell, perfectly integrated into the hilly landscape in which it seems to merge. The building is entirely glazed, allowing light to interact with the works on display.
Finally, don't miss another treasure: the house of Finn Juhl, the famous Danish architect and furniture designer. The house was built in 1942, kratvænget 15, on a 1,700m2 plot of land adjacent to Ordrupgaard Park. Thanks to a donation from Birgit Lyngbye Pedersen, it is now an integral part of Ordrupgaard and can be visited! Furniture and interior design will certainly inspire you...
