Shakespeare's play was first played in Enceinte castle in 1816, on the occasion of the th anniversary of the death of the English playwright. It has been regularly carried over, in Danish, but sometimes also in English: Sir Laurence Olivier, John Gielgud or Richard Burton did not resist the desire to interpret the Prince of Denmark in the middle of the ramparts supposed to have served as a framework for the famous historical and family tragedy. After 21 years of interruption, the tradition of assembling performances in English was resumed during the summer of 2000, and every year since. Information at the Tourist Office.
