RUDOLPH TEGNER MUSEUM (MUSEUM OG STATUEPARK)
A museum set up in a building designed like a bunker, where you can discover the immoderation of artist Rudolph Tegners' immense statues.
A place that is unlike any other and stands in stark contrast to its surroundings. The building itself is designed like a real bunker. It was built in 1938: a high concrete cube without windows, with a glass dome to provide natural light. It shows the excessiveness of the artist Rudolph Tegners (1873-1950). His taste for immense statues, with gigantic proportions. For example, this naked woman, lying in a Roman style pose, with very round forms and an arm hanging carelessly, almost as long as the whole body! His talent to translate feelings. On the faces of the embracing couples, one can read the pleasure and the bliss, sometimes the anxiety.
It is a style quite close to the great sculptors of his generation such as Antoine Bourdelle in France or Gustav Vigeland in Norway. It also has the emphatic monumentality of nationalist or communist commissions. His political sympathies were also reproached. This place is defined as a museum mausoleum since the artist is buried in the middle of the main room, under the slab, while the ashes of his wife are contained in the plinth of the huge Apollo!
Outside, a vast park, where some sheep graze, shelters other statues: it has been recently refurbished, do not hesitate to walk there. Finally, you can buy casts of some of the works... fortunately not so monumental!
