PLACE DU PETIT ENFER
A tourist attraction facing the beach with a shopping area, ideal for a drink or an ice cream.
The Place du Petit Enfer in Luc-sur-Mer is a popular tourist attraction. Despite its strange name, this convivial space opposite the beach is far from being a hell, but rather a little paradise where people gather to chat, have a drink or enjoy an ice cream. The origin of the name dates back to the 17th century, when Protestants were buried in a cemetery located halfway between the village and the sea. After the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685, the place was nicknamed Petit Enfer. Over the years, the square has grown with the arrival of shops, and has become an essential part of the Côte de Nacre. Recently renovated, the square now offers 752m² of space with bleachers overlooking the sea, as well as a variety of shops including a restaurant, bakery, art gallery and tourist office. As well as visiting the Place du Petit Enfer, visitors can also admire the skeleton of a whale, take a stroll in the town hall park, watch the sunset from the fishermen’s jetty and enjoy the nautical activities offered by the Luc Yacht Club.
