The Salam Mosque on the Plateau is a must-see, with its immense majorelle-blue dome and 65-metre-high minaret. Like Barcelona's Sagrada Familia, this mosque has had a long history of unfinished construction. Begun under the presidency of Henri Konan Bédié in 1996 at a cost of $20 million, construction was halted for 18 years during the crisis years, until it was revived thanks to a $6 million donation from Saudi Arabia. Inaugurated in 2007, it covers 7,500 m² and can accommodate some 6,500 worshippers.
